A Smidgen of The Cavaliers History
Box 1: After winning their first DCI Championship in 1992, they changed their corps song to Gavorkna Fanfare. However, they changed it back after many members collapsed from being mentally drained before shows.
Box 2: On his first day as corps director, Jeff Fiedler almost got fired when he recommended the corps change their colors to purple and be known as the Lavender Extravagander.
Box 3: In 1956 they held a contest to come up with a corps cheer. They ultimately chose 'Splooie' but other strong finalists included 'Ka-Splooie', 'Splooby Dooby Doo' and 'Let's be Splooperb'.
Box 4: One of their most impressive feats is that for 32 consecutive years they have placed either first or second in the 'All Male Drum Corps Volleyball League'.
Box 5: The Standing Man in the Cavalier's logo is actually Jerry West.
Box 6: When Micahel Boo marched the Cavaliers he ahd a bad run in with the Boston Crusaders during retreat, which he has never been able to let go of. In last year's DCI program book, he wrote of Boston's show: "They play music and march. Whoopity freakin' do dah."
Box 7: A local company names a service they provide after the Cavaliers, in honor of their commitment to the community of Rosemont: The Cavalier Pap Smear.
Box 8: Every few years they try to reenact the Great Chicago Fire with their cook truck.
Box 9: The Cavaliers Bass Drum Cadence, affectionately known as 'Shoes in a Dryer', is one of the most well known cadences, trumped only by SCV's 'Junk in the Trunk' and Glassmen's 'Dirty Diaper Surprise'.
Box 10: Known as a corps being ahead of its time, they banned their members from using cell phones on tour...in 1974.
Box 11: In 2004 Michael Gaines was arrested. He then coordinated one of the most elaborate and stunning mass jailbreaks ever.
